DRESSMAKING 4

BUTTON AND RUFFLE UP FOR A FLOATY DRESS

Maria's favourite dress ... she has 6 in her wardrobe right now and in a variety of different fabrics, made small style alterations to the sleeve to achieve different looks. It's a beautiful dress with a small button-up bodice and lots of gathers.

What will you learn?

In the first session, we will find your size, trace the pattern, tissue fit (make adjustments if necessary) and cut the fabric.

In the second session, we will sew the darts, button stand and collar; and also make buttonholes with the sewing machine.

Homework: Set-in sleeves.

In the third session, we will gather the fabric for the skirt tier and the hem ruffle (there might not be enough time for the sleeve ruffle*) and sew the skirt and hem.

*if you choose the sleeve ruffle, after setting in the sleeves into your bodice, just leave the sleeve hem unstitched for now. You will learn how to gathered the fabric in the last session and add the sleeve ruffles at home.

Who is this workshop for?

This workshop is suitable for adults who have good knowledge of sewing and is very confident sewing with cotton or other medium weight woven fabrics. We like to keep workshop sizes small, giving you lots of one on one time and the opportunity to ask as many questions as you like. The maximum workshop size is 6.

What is included in the course? And what do I have to bring?

We will be using the Myosotis Dress pattern from Deer & Doe. You'll get to take the pattern home to replicate the dress as many times as you like. You will trace of the pattern and tracing paper is included.

Please bring fabric and matching thread. The dress works beautifully in a variety of different fabrics, including light to medium weight cotton and cotton lawn, rayon, crepe and even chambray. Just remember that slippery fabrics are harder to sew! The fabric shouldn’t be sheer. Medium-weight fabrics are more suitable for the simpler version, the ruffled sleeves and skirt hem work great in fabrics with a bit of weight, like Rayon Crepe. Please also bring 3 buttons that match your fabric - or stand out if that's your preferred look - it is your dress.

Fabric Requirements:

Depending on the fabric width, the following fabric is required:

Fabric width 1.15m, you will need 3.5m for Version A (with all the ruffles), and 2.8m for Version B (simple skirt & sleeves)

Fabric width 1.40m, you will need 3m for Version A (with all the ruffles), and 2.5m for Version B (simple skirt & sleeves)

Take a look at the fabrics I carry which are suitable. Did you know that course attendees get 20% for their fabrics? Check your confirmation letter for the discount code.
