DRESSMAKING 2

MAKE YOUR FIRST DRESS

Want to learn how to make your own dress? In this course you will make your first dress and dive into small fit adjustments.

What will you learn?

In the first session, we will trace and alter the pattern and make toile (test garment) to check if any further alterations are necessary before cutting into your fabric.

In the second session, learn how to sew darts to shape a garment and start the construction of your dress.

In the third session, finish the armholes and neck facing, and hem your dress.

Who is this workshop for?

This workshop is suitable for adults who have basic knowledge of sewing and have previously attended the beginner course and Intro to Dressmaking or Dressmaking 1 (or made similar projects). We like to keep workshop sizes small, giving you lots of one on one time and the opportunity to ask as many questions as you like. The maximum workshop size is 6.

What is included in the course? And what do I have to bring?

We will be using the Ultimate Shift Dress pattern from Sew Over It. You'll get to take the pattern home to replicate the dress or top version as many times as you like. You will trace of the pattern and tracing paper is included.

Please bring fabric and matching thread. The dress is extremely versatile patterns when it comes to fabric. Most light or medium weight woven fabrics, such as cotton, linen, rayon, viscose, wool, crepe or even silk (if you’re feeling adventurous!) will work. Just remember that slippery fabrics are harder to sew! The fabric shouldn’t be sheer as we won’t have time to sew a lining.

Fabric Requirements:

Depending on the fabric width, the following fabric is required for the Ultimate Shift Dress:

Fabric width 1.15m, you will need 2.75m

Fabric width 1.4m, you will need 2m

This is for fabric with a directional print. If your fabric isn't directional, you may need less.

Take a look at the fabrics I carry which are suitable. Did you know that course attendees get 20% for their fabrics? Check your confirmation letter for the discount code.
